Abstract

The short mackerel is the most commercially important small pelagic fish in Indonesia. Parasitism plays a central role in fish biology. Parasitism is a ubiquitous phenomenon in the marine environment and it is probable that all marine fishes are infected with parasites. Helminth parasitic of Rastrelliger spp. are Lechitocladium angustonum (Digenea: Hemiuridae), Lecitochirium sp. (Digenea: Hemiuridae), Prodistomum orientalis (Digenea: Lepocreadiidae) and Anisakis typica (Nematodes: Anisakidae), with 90.12% of prevalence. They are not significant different of helminth parasitic abundance from R. kanagurta and R. brachysoma, but significant in helminth species richness. This different of helminth species richness was because of L. angustonum dominances. The different location wasn’t have significant different of helminth parasitic abundance because Indonesian in the tropical zone. Anisakis species in Java sea have a same genetic with Anisakis typical and not zoonotic parasite kategories. The fish digestion was a microhabitat for helminth parasitik because they have much food stuff. The fish growth have significant different in helminth parasitic abundance and intencity. This situation was because the fish immunity development and the food habit of fish.

Abstract

As one group of Chironomidae Tanypodinae larvae can be used in biological assessment to detect the heavymetal pollution in aquatic environment, because they could show morphological changes due to the pollution. Thestudy was aimed to describe ligula deformities in Tanypodinae larvae in a heavy metal polluted lake. The study wasconducted in Mei to June 2014 at Lake Lido, West Java. The results showed that lead (Pb) concentration in LidoLake was quaite high, i.e. 0.08 0.19 mg/L. Ten of fifty-five collected Tanypodinae larve exhibited deformation in theirligulae. Index of severity of ligula deformation (ILSD) was 4.4 indicating the response of the Chironomidae larvae tolead pollution.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystem plays an important role in contributing the organic matter from litter produced which is amajor link of the food web in mangrove ecosystem. The research was conducted to estimate litterfall production ofmangroves in Tangerang coastal area. The structure and composition of the mangrove ecosystem consists ofAvicenia marina, Avicenia alba, Rhizophora mucronata, and Sonneratia caseolaris with density and diameter ofmangrove trees about 3 23 tress/100 m2 and 4.8 38.2 cm, respectively. The results of station groupings based onthe structure and composition of mangrove with environmental parameters showed the highest production oflitterfall generated by group II (station 4; consists of Avicenia marina and Rhizophora mucronata), followed bygroup III (station 6; consists of Sonneratia caseolaris) and group I (station 1, 2, 3, and 5; of Avicenia alba, Aviceniamarina, and Rhizophora mucronata). Litterfal production of group II reached 3.86 ± 0.22 g/m2/day, followed by groupIII and group I (3.63 ± 2.2 g/m2/day and 2.88 ± 0.99 g/m2/day, respectively). Overall, the total production of litterfallper day in the coastal area reached 3.45 g/m2/day with leaf as the main component (>80%), followed by twigs andreproductive organs.

Abstract

Gili Matra Aquatic Park is a conservation area located in Gili Indah Village, North Lombok. It is one of marineprotected areas that has a wide range of potential resources, i.e. fish resources and ecosystems. The potency offish resources and marine ecosystems is utilized in fisheries and tourism activities. Non responsible fisheries andtourism activities can cause ecosystem degradation and fish extinction. The existence and preservation of fishresources is the main key to successful fisheries management in Gili Matra. Therefore, it is necessary to study theecological footprint to estimate the carrying capacity of fisheries in Gili Matra Aquatic Park. This study wasconducted in May June at TWP Gili Matra. The ecological footprint analysis showed that EF in Gili Indah village is0.1 x 10-6 km2/kapita. When the population of Gili Indah village in 2014 are 3.694 people, the area of EF is 0.55 km2.Compared with 18.97 km2 sustainability fisheries zone of TWP Gili Matra, so this is referred to undershoot. The useof EF fishery is still smaller than available area and the resources can reproduce and maintain its ecologicalfunctions.

Abstract

Substrate has an important role for growing and surviving of seagrass as a medium of life and as a supplier of nutrients. Lack of attention towards seagrass is because of less information related to the seagrass ecology itself. The aim of this study is to determine the influence of substrate diameter with it’s density. The study was conducted in April in Bahoi coastal, North Minahasa District, North Sulawesi. This study measured water quality, substrate sampling were taken in the field. The result showed that 6 seagrass species: Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Halodule uninervis, Cymodecea rotundata, Syringodium isoetifolium, Halpohila ovalis, with good water quality and sand substrate types. This coastal area was dominated by small-sized seagrass. The highest density was found at station B with seagrass type was S. isoetifolium and lowest was at station C with E. acoroides and Sand substrate which had big diameter, type T. hemprichii had high density.

Abstract

Lechitocladium angustiovum is fish helminth parasites in the digestive tract to the Rastrelliger genus. The habitat of helminth parasites divided into microhabitat and makrohabitat. Fish helminth parasites infections showed the interaction of extrinsic factors (hosts habitat) and intrinsic factors (biological host). The study was conducted in February-June 2013 in the waters of the Banten Bay (Banten Province) and Pelabuhan Ratu Bay (West Jawa Province). Microhabitat helminth parasites of L. angustiovum that infect R. brachysoma gastrointestinal tract is the stomach and intestines. The presence of fish helminth parasites in fish is mutually beneficial. Fish helminth parasites get food from the fish but its presence prevents other parasites that infect fish. The presence of these worms in the digestive tract is affected by the presence of copepode and small crustaceans that are influenced by the host biology (growth and gonad development) and environmental waters. The number of L. angustiovum from Banten Bay and Pelabuhan Ratu Bay was not significantly different because of the fish has genetically similar populations.

Abstract

This research was conducted at two different lakes in Jambi Province (Lake Sipin and Lake Teluk) to compare abundance of aquatic insect larvae (family: Chironomidae). Lake Sipin located close by the settlement and got many influences from anthropogenic activities. However, Lake Teluk got less anthropogenic disturbance. Both lakes have difference plants cover. The area around Lake Sipin was more open compared to Lake Teluk and it caused low transparency level in Lake Sipin. The transparency level of Lake Sipin was 58.62 cm whereas transparency level of Lake Teluk was 70.29 cm. The difference of this transparency level influenced Chironomidae Larvae abundance that was encountered. Larvae abundance which was found in Lake Sipin was 49 ind/m2, while larvae abundance of Lake Teluk was 374 ind/m2. The result showed that water transparency level, water colors and vegetation affected abundance of Chironomidae larvae.
